Under the slogan ‘The event to improve cities,’ ON-A fosters biotechnological innovation with Bioo at the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC24), which took place in Barcelona from November 5 to 7 at Fira de Barcelona. It has established itself as the largest and most influential global event in the sector of cities and urban innovation. Each year, it brings together leaders from businesses, governments, and international organisations with the goal of guiding cities towards a more sustainable and prosperous future. Its main objective is to promote global urban innovation, empowering cities to tackle the critical challenges of today.
The Stand
This year, we had the privilege of participating in the design of Bioo’s stand, with a focus on sustainability and technological innovation.
At the heart of the stand is an olive tree, a symbol of life and nature, surrounded by several key areas: the “Bioelectricity” zone, where the main feature is the Bio panel, a device that uses biological processes to generate sustainable energy; the “Bioexperience” interactive zone, where living plants turn into biological switches, activating lights, screens, sound, and music upon contact with a leaf; and the “Bioluminescence” zone, dedicated to the Bioo Lumina product, which uses bioluminescence to naturally and sustainably generate light. Additionally, the “BioDesign & Projects” space was created, an exhibition area featuring our most innovative bioarchitecture projects, alongside a meeting space designed to foster the exchange of ideas and collaboration.
This project allowed us to deliver a clear message: architecture can not only care for the planet, but also be a driving force for innovation and creativity.
Biotechnological Projects
During SCEWC24, we had the opportunity to present some of the projects we are developing in collaboration with Bioo, focused on creating biotechnological buildings and shaping the cities of the future.
This year, the highlighted project was the “Al Khobar Water Tower“, an iconic water tower reimagined along the Al Khobar waterfront. Inspired by water as a symbol of life and prosperity, this transformation redefines the waterfront experience by incorporating a shopping centre with entertainment and dining spaces on an existing artificial island. In projects of this magnitude, the goal is to integrate advanced technology and sustainability principles, creating a positive impact on both the infrastructure and the natural environment.
Other projects showcased included “Biotech City“, a self-sustaining city designed for extreme habitats, and “Biotech Tower“, whose green facades provide an urban oasis for city residents.
Bioo + ON-A
Thanks to our collaboration with Bioo, we are able to develop ambitious projects with a sustainable vision, which symbolises our strong commitment to uniting architecture and green technology to create a brighter and greener future for all.
Bioo, a revolutionary and pioneering company in the development of the world’s first biotechnological buildings and cities, achieves this through its unique patented technologies.
